Erfurt: Parking violation leads to drug arrest

During the night from Friday to Saturday, an arrest in the drug milieu took place in Erfurt that began with a seemingly minor parking violation. Officers from Erfurt police provisionally arrested a suspected drug dealer in the north of the Thuringian state capital. After judicial confirmation of the arrest, the 34-year-old suspect is being held in a correctional facility. During a search of the man, officers found, in addition to the key for the van, another car key with a remote control. When police activated the remote, a car parked nearby responded. Officers also found that fake license plates had been mounted on this second vehicle. The suspicion expanded significantly: the 34-year-old appeared not to have used only a single vehicle with manipulated plates, but also had access to a second car with the same modus operandi.

The discovery of the second vehicle fundamentally changed the operational situation. What initially appeared to be a traffic and license plate violation developed into a more complex case involving multiple objects and a suspect who apparently had access to a network of vehicles.

Searches ordered by the public prosecutor's office

On the order of the public prosecutor's office, officers then searched the suspect, both vehicles, and the 34-year-old's apartment. The operation thus covered multiple crime scenes and required coordinated action between police and prosecutors. Searches of this kind are ordered only when there is sufficient suspicion and serve to secure evidence.

During the searches, officers seized various narcotics, weapons, suspected stolen goods, and utensils indicating commercial drug dealing. Driving under drug influence and no driving license

In the further course of the investigation, suspicion strengthened that the man had driven the van shortly before in public traffic. Because he was obviously under the influence of narcotics, a blood sample was taken at the police station. The accused could not present a valid driving license.
