Drugs at the wheel: police stop driver in Ravensburg

Ravensburg Police Headquarters has published a comprehensive collection of recent incident reports from Ravensburg district. The press release bundles events from several municipalities and provides insight into the diverse work of local police stations – from traffic checks to accident investigations and inquiries into property damage and fires. The reports span Ravensburg, Wangen, Kißlegg, Aulendorf and Aichstetten. One case in the city of Ravensburg stands out, in which officers stopped a driver under the influence of intoxicating substances and immediately initiated measures.

Driver under drug influence stopped in Ravensburg

On Monday evening, officers from Ravensburg police station conducted a traffic check in the city area. A 34-year-old driver caught their attention, apparently under the influence of intoxicating substances. Officers stopped the man and determined he was no longer fit to participate safely in road traffic. Police prohibited him from continuing his journey and secured the situation on site.

Following the check, the 34-year-old had to provide a blood sample at a clinic. This sample serves to forensically confirm possible drug use and forms the basis for further criminal and traffic law measures. If the blood test confirms the suspicion, the driver faces a substantial fine and a driving ban lasting several weeks. The measure underscores how resolutely authorities act against driving under the influence of drugs and the far-reaching consequences a positive result can entail. Even without immediate arrest, such an incident can have significant consequences for those involved.

Suspected car theft turns out to be a mistake

Also on Monday evening, a 50-year-old man reported the theft of his vehicle worth around 20,000 euros. Police immediately launched search measures and looked for the missing car. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle owner contacted authorities again with an all-clear: he had simply forgotten where he had parked. The car was found undamaged in another street in the city area. After the 50-year-old appeared in person at the police station, the search was called off. For emergency services, the incident meant a time-consuming but ultimately successfully concluded operation with no criminal offence.

Rollover while intoxicated: accident on L 275 near Aulendorf

Shortly after 7 p.m., a 23-year-old overturned his Volkswagen on the L 275 between Bad Waldsee and Haslach. In a right-hand bend, the rear of the vehicle reportedly broke away due to excessive speed and insufficient tyre tread. The car skidded, left the road and hit several trees, some of which were uprooted. The vehicle then rolled over completely. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by emergency services.

A preliminary test showed more than 0.3 per mille alcohol in his blood, prompting a blood sample at the clinic. The 23-year-old faces criminal and driving licence consequences for endangering road traffic. The vehicle was written off at around 3,000 euros, with roadside damage estimated at roughly 2,000 euros. The VW had to be towed away.

Apartment fire in Wangen: mother and infant injured

Shortly before 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a fire broke out in the kitchen of a flat in a multi-storey building on Ravensburger Strasse in Wangen. A 32-year-old woman was woken by a smoke alarm and was able to escape with her few-month-old child. Emergency services evacuated other flats in the building as a precaution, while the volunteer fire brigade extinguished the flames within a short time.

Mother and child were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation injuries. Damage to the flat, which will remain uninhabitable for the time being, is at least 100,000 euros. Wangen police station has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and is working through the circumstances of the incident.

Traffic accidents and workplace incident in the district

In Kißlegg, a 21-year-old motorcyclist remained uninjured in an accident on the district road between Dettishofen and Dürren after jumping off his Honda near Rain following a driving error. The motorcycle slid on, hit a power pole and damaged it severely. Damage is estimated at several thousand euros. While the pole was being repaired, the K 8025 was closed for around half an hour.

On the A96 towards Lindau, a 31-year-old sustained minor injuries after leaving the road at high speed for reasons still unclear. The motorcycle skidded and came to a stop on the verge. Emergency services took the injured man to hospital. Damage to the motorcycle is around 10,000 euros. In Krumbach, a 64-year-old worker fell from a height of around 1.80 metres in the engine room of a mobile work machine and suffered serious head and torso injuries. After initial treatment on site, he was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. Police rule out third-party involvement.

Double accident caused by 71-year-old in Aichstetten

In Aichstetten, a 71-year-old Audi driver caused two traffic accidents within a short time. In Hochstrasse he drove unsafely and collided with the trailer of an oncoming 45-year-old's lorry, then drove on without stopping. A police patrol stopped the senior in Niederhofen, during which the Audi rolled backwards into the patrol car.

Total damage to all three vehicles is in the four-figure range. The confused-looking senior faces criminal and driving licence consequences for leaving the scene of an accident.
