Rüsselsheim: Drugs seized in city center checks
As part of the "Safe Inner City" program, officers from the Groß-Gerau police directorate and the South Hesse police headquarters carried out extensive checks in Rüsselsheim on Saturday, 11 June. The operation ran from 4:00 p.m. until midnight across the city center and included targeted measures in restaurants, road traffic, and personal checks. The officers were supported by the Hessian riot police and the municipal police.
Large-scale checks in the city center
The action focused on several areas of public life in Rüsselsheim. A total of ten restaurants were inspected, road traffic was monitored, and numerous people in the city were subjected to closer scrutiny. The police aimed not only to uncover administrative offenses but also to strengthen safety in the city center and detect potential crimes at an early stage.
The time frame from 4:00 p.m. to midnight allowed officers to monitor both the busy afternoon activity and the evening and night hours in the city center in a targeted manner. During this period, restaurants are particularly busy and traffic also increases. Police used these conditions to carry out checks where many people are on the move.
By the end of the operation, the results were significant. A total of 326 people and 158 vehicles were checked. Officers recorded 95 administrative offenses and initiated nine criminal proceedings. Five of those checked were being sought by public prosecutors in connection with ongoing investigations. Once their current residential addresses were established, they were allowed to leave.
Drug finds and new investigations
The results of the personal checks in the city center attracted particular attention. The officers initiated two investigations for illegal trafficking in narcotics. In addition, a violation for possession of narcotics was identified and is also being pursued under criminal law.
During the checks, officers seized around 20 grams of marijuana as well as a small quantity of amphetamine. A precision scale was also confiscated. Investigators believe the find points to possible trade in illegal substances. Traffic checks and threatened driving bans
Alongside the city center checks, officers carried out traffic controls. Charges were filed for violations of compulsory insurance law. Drunk driving was also detected and reported. Several speeding offenses were added to the list.
Ten drivers now face driving bans. On Frankfurter Straße, one motorist was recorded at 65 kilometers per hour in a 30 km/h zone. On Walter-Flex-Straße, a driver was traveling at 82 kilometers per hour where the maximum permitted speed was 30 km/h. Such excessive speeds pose a considerable risk to other road users and are pursued particularly strictly by police.
Police evaluates the operation
According to police, the "Safe Inner City" program combines various control areas into a coordinated security concept. Through cooperation between several authorities, numerous violations were uncovered in Rüsselsheim within a single evening. In addition to administrative offenses and traffic crimes, more serious criminal offenses were also in focus.
Close coordination between the Groß-Gerau police directorate, South Hesse police headquarters, riot police, and municipal police proved effective.
