PI Lüneburg: Drug finds and weekend operations

The Lüneburg, Lüchow-Dannenberg and Uelzen police inspection has published its weekend press release for the period from 19 to 21 June 2026. The extensive situation report covers operations across several districts in Lower Saxony – from assaults and burglaries to fraud offences, traffic violations and targeted controls in the field of drug enforcement. Authorities are requesting witness information in numerous cases.

Assault and disputes in Lüneburg

In Lüneburg city centre, a physical altercation involving three people took place on 20 June 2026 at around 01:30 in Auf dem Kauf street. According to current findings, several young men were in the area of a kiosk when another group arrived. A verbal conflict escalated into a fight in which at least one 19-year-old man was injured by a blow to the face. The suspected main aggressor could not be located nearby. Witnesses are asked to contact Lüneburg police on 04131/607-2215.

Burglaries, thefts and fraud

In Hohnstorf, unknown offenders broke into a snack bar near federal road 209 during the night of 19 to 20 June and stole a small amount of cash. In Rullstorf, a high-value Mercedes off-road vehicle worth around 125,000 euros was stolen from a company premises. No signs of forced entry were found on site. A 79-year-old woman from the Lüneburg-Bockelsberg area fell victim to fraudsters on 20 June who posed as police officers on the phone and claimed her son needed bail after an accident. The woman subsequently handed over valuable jewellery to an unknown offender at her front door. Police explicitly warn that genuine officers never demand cash or valuables over the phone.

Traffic offences and flight from police

On 21 June, the 18-year-old rider of a moped in Lüneburg city centre tried to evade a police check at around 01:30. He ignored several traffic rules, ran red lights, drove through a pedestrian zone and passed several people at inappropriate speed. After a fall he continued on foot but was apprehended shortly afterwards. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The moped was seized. Investigations are under way for illegal street racing, endangering road traffic and driving without a licence, among other offences.

In St. Dionys, a traffic accident with suspected drink-driving occurred on 20 June at around 21:10 in Hagenweg. A 27-year-old driver collided with a parked vehicle while turning. Witnesses prevented him from continuing his journey. A breath test showed 2.13 per mille. Both vehicles sustained property damage and criminal proceedings were initiated.

Drug checks and suspected narcotics

In the Clenze, Lüchow and Lübbow area, several cases over the weekend focused on road users under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances. In Clenze, traffic checks revealed two drivers aged 48 and 67 with more than 1.2 per mille each; both were banned from continuing their journey.

During a check on an e-scooter in Lüchow town centre, a drug screening test on a 37-year-old rider returned positive. A blood sample was taken and he was banned from continuing. Around midnight, a further check in Clenze established cannabis impairment in a 50-year-old driver. The drug screening test was also positive and a blood sample was ordered.

A particularly serious incident occurred in the Lübbow area: At around 21:30 on 19 June, the driver of a VW Crafter van tried to evade a traffic check. At a junction between Teplingen and Lübbow he crashed and drove down an embankment. The 25-year-old driver from the region initially fled on foot but was apprehended by officers. He was under the influence of alcohol with a breath reading of 1.8 per mille and suspected drug influence. A bag of suspected narcotics was found on him. Police secured traces in and on the vehicle, which may have been used without authorisation. The suspect aggressively threatened and insulted officers, leading to additional criminal proceedings.

Further operations in Lüchow-Dannenberg and Uelzen

At the Dannenberg shooting festival, several verbal disputes occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday and were resolved on site. In Lüchow town centre, a 35-year-old man was injured with a stabbing implement after verbal altercations and taken to hospital. In Clenze, a 30-year-old man was caught shoplifting chocolate. In Teldau, unknown offenders broke into a warehouse and stole tools, cables, furnishings and computer equipment worth tens of thousands of euros.

In Uelzen, a mobile snack bar was broken into, graffiti was found on electricity boxes and house walls, and in Bienenbüttel a 40-kilogram stone statue was stolen from a front garden. After a football match, car convoys and isolated fireworks occurred in the town centre. In Gudesstrasse, a pedestrian was slightly injured when stepping onto the road unexpectedly. In Lemgow, a 75-year-old mobility scooter rider was slightly injured when he overlooked a water ditch while reversing.
