Drug find in Sinsheim: 19-year-old arrested after chase

Shortly after five o'clock on the early Saturday morning, a routine traffic check in a nightclub parking lot in Sinsheim escalated into a dangerous pursuit through the Rhein-Neckar district. A 19-year-old Hyundai driver tried to evade police officers, accelerated during the escape and put other road users at considerable risk. The chase finally ended in Waldbrunn, where the man was arrested. Subsequent searches of his vehicle and apartment led investigators to drugs, weapons and counterfeit money.

Starting point: nightclub parking lot in Sinsheim

The incident began in the parking lot of a nightclub in Sinsheim when a witness reported unusual driving behavior to the police. According to the caller, the Hyundai driver was performing so-called donuts on the premises, leaving clear tire marks on the asphalt. The patrol from Sinsheim police station arrived shortly afterwards to subject the driver to a traffic check and clarify the situation on site.

Before officers could inspect the vehicle, the 19-year-old attempted to flee. He accelerated abruptly and drove away on federal road B292 in the direction of Mosbach. This marked the start of a pursuit that stretched across several locations in the Rhein-Neckar district and caused considerable concern in the early morning hours. Traffic on the B292 runs through partly densely built-up areas, which made the fugitive's high speeds particularly critical.

Dangerous chase at speeds of up to 180 km/h

While fleeing from the police, the young man dramatically increased his speed. According to investigators, he reached speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour. He repeatedly crossed into oncoming traffic and forced approaching drivers to carry out risky evasive maneuvers. He was also accused of running red lights at intersections, further increasing the danger to other road users.

Police pursued the Hyundai for several kilometers and tried to bring the situation under control without further endangering public safety. Witnesses who observed the chase later reported aggressive driving and several near collisions. Particularly in the areas between Sinsheim and Mosbach and on the access roads to Waldbrunn, hectic scenes occurred as the suspect repeatedly changed direction and forced other cars to brake.

Officers from Mannheim Police Headquarters coordinated the pursuit from the command and control center. The aim was to get the driver to stop with as few further accidents as possible. The chase only ended in Waldbrunn when the suspect reduced his speed and finally came to a stop.

Arrest and suspicion of alcohol

In Waldbrunn, the 19-year-old was arrested without resistance. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on him. The man refused a breath alcohol test. Police then ordered a blood sample and sent it for forensic examination. In addition to the alcohol suspicion, investigators now also focused on what other offenses the fugitive may have committed.

Drugs, weapons and counterfeit money seized

The search of the Hyundai revealed several incriminating finds for investigators. Officers discovered a blank-firing gun, two precision scales and more than 40 grams of hashish in the vehicle. The scales and quantity of drugs suggested a possible link to drug dealing to police, even though the investigation was still at an early stage.

Blank-firing guns are subject to strict regulations in Germany. Finding such a weapon in the vehicle of a fugitive suspect further intensified the case. The two precision scales discovered alongside the hashish are considered by investigators to be typical tools for dealing narcotics in smaller quantities.

Apartment search adds to the evidence

Based on the vehicle finds, officers subsequently searched the 19-year-old's apartment. There they found a five-figure sum in cash, another blank-firing gun with ammunition and counterfeit money. The combination of narcotics, firearms, fake banknotes and larger amounts of cash significantly intensified the investigation and gave authorities reason to examine several criminal offenses.

The suspect's vehicle, his driving license and all seized evidence were confiscated. The items are to be forensically examined and incorporated into the ongoing investigation by Sinsheim police station. It remains unclear whether the man acted alone or whether other people were involved in the case. The origin of the counterfeit money and the hashish is also subject to further inquiries.

Investigation and witness appeal

Sinsheim police station has opened an investigation and is examining, among other things, violations of narcotics law, weapons law and possible forgery offenses. At the same time, the dangerous driving and alcohol suspicion are being assessed from a legal perspective. The blood sample is expected to clarify the level of intoxication of the person arrested and could have additional consequences for the young man's driving license.
