Arrest after pursuit with drug suspicion
A pursuit spanning several towns and a state border came to an end on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, in the region around Niederfischbach. A patrol crew from Police Inspection Betzdorf intended to subject an Opel Astra with SU license plates to a routine traffic check in Konrad-Adenauer-Straße at around 1:00 p.m. The driver ignored the stop signals and fled at high speed toward the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia. What began as an everyday roadside check developed into a large-scale manhunt with helicopter support and ended with a provisional arrest and indications of drug influence.
Flight after planned traffic check
According to Police Directorate Neuwied/Rhein, the Betzdorf patrol crew intended to stop the car in Niederfischbach. However, the driver did not respond to the officers' signals and accelerated sharply. During the flight, she lost parts of the Opel Astra's exhaust system, underscoring the dynamics and danger of the drive. Due to the risky driving, the immediate pursuit by police had to be temporarily suspended – a step taken in such operations to limit further danger to other road users.
Niederfischbach is located in the district of Neuwied in Rhineland-Palatinate, directly on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia.
