Conspicuous riding behaviour on Kantstraße
At around 11:45 p.m., police officers on duty noticed a cyclist in Kantstraße in the 67433 postal area riding a bicycle without lights. The 42-year-old from the Verbandsgemeinde Lambrecht in the Palatinate was reportedly riding in a noticeably unsteady manner and in serpentine lines. Such manoeuvres are commonly regarded as classic indicators of possible impairment and justify a targeted check.
Even while being stopped, the man showed further symptoms that reinforced the officers' assessment. Throughout the subsequent control he appeared insecure and disoriented. Police assumed that not only a technical traffic violation was involved, but that the cyclist's condition posed an immediate risk to road safety.
Detection of amphetamine and cannabis
According to investigators, the cause of the conspicuous behaviour was quickly established: the 42-year-old was under the influence of amphetamine and cannabis. Both substances can significantly impair perception, reaction capacity and motor control. Especially in road traffic – even on a bicycle – such a state increases the accident risk for the person concerned and other road users.
In the man's backpack, officers also found a small quantity of amphetamine, which was seized on the spot. Although police described the amount as small, possession and transport of such narcotics is sufficient for criminal consequences. Securing the substance is a central part of further investigations and serves as evidence in pending proceedings.
Blood sample and medical evidence
To forensically secure the drug influence, officers ordered a blood sample. Such samples are common in suspected cases of driving under the influence of intoxicating substances and provide authorities with reliable evidence for later court proceedings. At the same time, the man's bicycle was also seized – not only because of suspected drug possession, but also in connection with another offence.
Stolen mountain bike from Edenkoben
During questioning, the 42-year-old stated that he had not lawfully acquired the bicycle he was using. According to his account, he had stolen it on 21 June 2026 between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m. at the station in Edenkoben (postal code 67480). This added a theft case that can be pursued independently of the drug and traffic offences.
The secured bike is a Bulls mountain bike, model "Crossbike 2". The Neustadt/Weinstraße police inspection is now looking for the lawful owner of the bicycle. Anyone who recognises the description and is missing their property is asked to contact the responsible station.
Arrest warrants and transfer to prison
During the police operation it emerged that two arrest warrants were outstanding against the 42-year-old. After the check and related investigative steps were completed, the man was not released but taken to a correctional facility. The title of the police report – "traffic check ends with several charges and in prison" – refers precisely to this outcome.
Several parallel proceedings are now accumulating for the person concerned: driving under the influence of drugs, possession of narcotics, traffic violations such as riding without lights, and suspicion of bicycle theft. Added to this are the consequences of the existing arrest warrants, which were enforced independently of the current operation.
