Cocaine & Cannabis: Police Checks in Waiblingen
The Aalen Police Headquarters has published a comprehensive report on incidents in the Rems-Murr district. The district east of Stuttgart is one of the densely populated regions of Baden-Württemberg, where police and fire services handle numerous deployments daily. The current report bundles incidents from Murrhardt, Kirchberg an der Murr, Spiegelberg, Fellbach, Schorndorf and Winnenden as well as two cases from Waiblingen – including a control operation where narcotics offenses were the focus.
The individual deployments range from traffic accidents and attempted burglaries to fraud cases and targeted checks on public transport. They illustrate how broad the task spectrum of the responsible local police stations can be within just a few days.
Murrhardt: Intoxicated on a bicycle
In Murrhardt on Wednesday evening at around 8:10 p.m., a 37-year-old cyclist caught the attention of a police patrol on Grabenstraße because he was holding a beer can while riding. A subsequent breath test showed a blood alcohol level of approximately 1.6 per mille. The man had to undergo a blood test and faces charges.
Attempted burglary and fraud in the district
In Kirchberg an der Murr, unknown perpetrators attempted on Wednesday to force entry into a house on Königsberger Straße via the basement. The basement door held firm, the suspects fled unidentified and caused property damage of approximately 100 euros. Witness tips are being accepted by Backnang police station at 07191 9090.
In Spiegelberg on Tuesday afternoon, a woman fell victim to fraud via a phishing email. After clicking a link, she believed she was contacting her bank and disclosed sensitive data. The unknown perpetrators then accessed her computer remotely and initiated fraudulent transfers totaling a high five-figure euro amount. The criminal investigation department has opened an inquiry.
In view of increasing phishing attacks, police advise particular caution with emails containing direct links and recommend the following protective measures:
- Be suspicious when a link is sent directly by email and instead access official websites via their original pages.
- Check address bars in the browser and be cautious if they differ from the original web address.
- Do not transmit confidential data to financial institutions by email or phone; contact the bank directly if unsure.
- Do not download programs directly from email and only enter personal data through familiar processes on the website.
Multiple traffic accidents in Fellbach and Schorndorf
In Fellbach on Wednesday evening at around 6:45 p.m., an accident occurred on Stuttgarter Straße shortly before the city tunnel, causing total damage of approximately 7,500 euros. A 54-year-old Toyota driver changed lanes despite a solid line and failed to see an 18-year-old's VW Golf. No one was injured.
Also in Fellbach on Wednesday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m., two trucks collided. A 73-year-old truck driver attempted to turn left from Eberhardstraße onto Schorndorfer Straße while a 52-year-old colleague drove through a red light on Stuttgarter Straße. Both vehicles collided where the lanes merged. Property damage totaled approximately 13,500 euros with no injuries.
In Schorndorf on Wednesday evening, a 70-year-old Suzuki driver briefly lost control of her vehicle due to dizziness. On Göppinger Straße she veered left off the road and hit a concrete bollard. The woman was slightly injured, with damage of approximately 10,000 euros.
Fire, stone throwing and bicycle accident
Early Thursday morning in Winnenden, a garden shed on the plot "Hinter dem Stöckach" north of the southern bypass (L1140) caught fire for reasons still unclear. Police and fire services responded. Property damage amounted to approximately 8,000 euros with no injuries. Winnenden police are investigating the cause.
In Waiblingen on August 19 at around 8:50 p.m., a 16-year-old e-scooter rider on Alten Postplatz was pelted with stones by unknown persons while on the cycle path. A stone struck her hip causing minor injuries. Waiblingen police are seeking witnesses at 07151 9500.
In Winnenden on August 19 at around 4:00 p.m., a 59-year-old Haibike e-bike rider failed to yield on Seehaldenweg cycle path to a 20-year-old tricycle rider. Both collided. The 59-year-old was seriously injured and hospitalized, the younger rider was slightly hurt. Property damage totaled approximately 1,200 euros.
Control operation in Waiblingen: cocaine and cannabis in focus
On August 19, Waiblingen police conducted an extensive control operation. Plainclothes and uniformed officers checked public transport in Waiblingen and Weinstadt. Further person and vehicle checks followed mainly in Waiblingen's city center.
A total of 65 person checks and 16 vehicle checks were carried out. During the operation, officers initiated eight criminal proceedings. In addition to drunk driving and handling stolen goods offenses, narcotics-related crimes were particularly noted: several cases involved cocaine possession and violations of the Cannabis Consumption Act, which has set new rules for private cannabis use in Germany since legalization.
The combination of plainclothes and uniformed officers on public transport and subsequent checks in the city center aims to detect and prosecute offenses early. That multiple narcotics proceedings arose from a single operation underscores, in the authorities' view, the ongoing relevance of drug enforcement even in medium-sized cities such as Waiblingen and Weinstadt.
